(18 July 2013 – Hong Kong) Ocean Park launched a highlight attraction of this year’s Summer Splash – The Aerial Spectacular – featuring world-class performers making gravity-defying moves along the external vertical wall of Polar Adventure. This amazing musical comedy boasts awe-inspiring dance acts and stunts performed at a height equivalent to that of a four-storey building, providing everyone rollicking fun during the summer. The line-up of eight gravity-defying performers are highly credentialed in world-class productions, ranging from appearances in Broadway shows and Hollywood blockbusters like “The Dark Knight Rises” to touring with world with renowned theatrical troupes. Guests will be wowed by this ultimate summer entertainment that integrates dance moves, stunts, acrobatics and martial arts. There are five daily shows from today until 25 August.
The 11-metre high and 9-metre wide wall of Polar Adventure features jagged edges reminiscent of glacial ice, making it a uniquely challenging “stage” for the aerial show. Told through the movements of eight world-class dancers, the wall dance show is a heart-warming story about an adventurer and his penguin teammate’s difficult ascent to the top of the glacier’s peak with the help of polar rangers. Among the many gravity-defying moves include: flips, cartwheels, handstands, skipping motions and more.
The performers range from 22 to 30 in age; many performers within the crew have over 10 years of aerial acrobatics performing experience. Erica Linz, for instance, began performing at the tender age of nine and started performing on stage when she was twelve. Having performed in Dubai, Japan, the US and Canada, Linz said, “I am very excited to be here in Hong Kong for the first time, especially since we get to enjoy views of the beautiful environment of Ocean Park as we perform in mid-air. The textured surface of Polar Adventure offers a unique ‘stage’, enabling us to create many new moves that enhance both the level of difficulty and aesthetics of our performance.”
Kyle DesChamps, who often shared the stage with Linz, was born and raised in Boston. In addition to performing on stage, DesChamps took on stunt duties for “The Dark Knight Rises“, last year’s Batman blockbuster. Other highlights of DesChamps’ career include appearances in Broadway hits “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Billy Elliot”. DesChamps said, “With Hong Kong being such a vibrant city, I think both locals and tourists will really enjoy our dynamic and challenging performances. This is a great exchange opportunity for me to make friends in Hong Kong and learn about its culture.”
