Bo Bo |
保保 |
Bo Bo (保保) bears a resemblance to the Cantonese term for "baby", which pairs harmoniously with another crocodile in Hong Kong named Pui Pui. The character “保” also serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting ecological balance. “Bo” carries the meaning of “be original”, reminding people to respect the original state of the ecosystem. It echoes the idea that introducing non-native species can pose a threat to local biodiversity. |

Harmony |
蓮融 |
Harmony (蓮融) The name Harmony captures the idea of peaceful coexistence between humans and animals. Additionally, lotus seed paste, a beloved traditional delicacy in Hong Kong, adds a touch of cultural significance that locals truly appreciate. |
3 |
Hope |
希希 |
Hope (希希) Hope symbolises the ongoing support for animal conservation and optimism for the future of Hong Kong. It embodies the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, emphasising the significance of protecting the ecological environment. Lotus |
糖蓮子 |
Lotus (糖蓮子) The Chinese name of the crocodile incorporates the character "蓮" (lotus) to pay homage to its discovery in the lotus field in Pat Heung. The English name, Lotus, carries the same meaningful essence. Additionally, to signify the joy that the crocodile's presence will bring to visitors and its role as an ambassador within Ocean Park, the character "糖" (candy) was added at the beginning of the Chinese name. |
5 |
Passion |
百香果 |
Passion (百香果) The crocodile was discovered in Pat Heung, a name that bears resemblance to the Cantonese term for passion fruit. This connection emphasises the energetic nature of the crocodile, captured by the word "Passion". Furthermore, “Passion” represents the Park’s dedication to ecological conservation upon the crocodile’s arrival. It also serves as a shortened form of “passion fruit”. |

On 30 April 2023, an exotic crocodile found in Lin Fa Tei, Pat Heung was transferred from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) to Ocean Park. The crocodile is a female, measuring approximately 1.9m in length and weighing around 35kg. It is estimated that she is around four years old and is not a native species to Hong Kong. Currently, the crocodile is staying in the Park's back-of-house facilities under the attentive care of our professional caretakers. The good news is that she will soon become part of the Ocean Park family, with a mission to safeguard Hong Kong's ecosystem!
Since the crocodile's transfer to Ocean Park, she has yet to be named. Now, we're asking you to help us think of the perfect name for her! Starting from 17 January 2024, you can submit both a Chinese and English name that is both meaningful and memorable. Participants whose names are selected will have the chance to win prizes valued at a total of over HK$40,000. Act now to submit your idea!
