"We are thrilled to collaborate with the Pok Fu Lam Village Fire Dragon Association, as we both embrace unwavering dedication to promoting the cultural heritage of Southern Hong Kong," said Ivan Wong, Chief Executive of Ocean Park Corporation. "The Fire Dragon Exhibition is more than a showcase. It acts as a platform for educating and captivating visitors of all generations, instilling a profound respect for the thriving customs of our district that has endured for over a century. Discover the meticulous craftsmanship
Constructing a fire dragon begins with creating the bamboo framework for the dragon's head before bamboo strips are used to shape its features. The dragon's body is constructed by layering straws on a thick rope, tightly securing it with iron wire. The Pok Fu Lam Village residents and volunteers work together to complete the fire dragon, which takes approximately one month.
Enthralling fire dragon dance with a twist
The fire dragon dance parade staged at Ocean Park today is a smoke and fire-free rendition in which the dragon joss sticks are decorated with fluorescent materials for a unique, captivating visual effect. The Pok Fu Lam Village Fire Dragon crew comprises athletic dragon dancers of all ages and generations.
