HONG KONG’S FIRST MOVIE-THEMED HALLOWEEN ATTRACTION – PANG BROTHERS’ “RECYCLE” – AND FIRST EVER STUDENT-DESIGNED HAUNTED SENSATION PUSH GUESTS’ LIMITS

FROM SUNDOWN TO MIDNIGHT 538 ALL-NEW AND REGULAR HAUNTED ATTRACTIONS AWAIT YOUR ARRIVAL!

(13 August 2009 – Hong Kong) 8 new haunted houses, 3 new scary zones, 13 new show and activity titles, 80 daily performances, 404 lost souls, and over 30 regular attractions – all await to push guests to their wits end at Ocean Park Halloween Bash 2009 from 25 September to 1 November, sundown to midnight, every Friday, weekend and on public holidays and the night before. By catapulting scare tactics to stratospheric levels, Ocean Park has re-enacted and brought to life the most horrifying and disturbing stories and legends from Hong Kong. For the first time ever, Ocean Park is working with world-renowned movie directors, the Pang Brothers, to reconstruct their horror masterpiece, “Recycle.” Also for the first time ever, Ocean Park asked the Hong Kong people to design their own haunted house. The winning concept was from a group of Hong Kong university students who came up with the haunted train station, “Purgatory Express” built also for one-time only at Ocean Park’s Summit Station, home to the Park’s newest attraction, the Ocean Express funicular train system, which will be running for the first time during a Halloween event and offering new, shorter and exciting ways to explore the Park along with its own immersive show experience.

The reincarnated King of the Underworld, a.k.a. Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park, guided media friends and guests to an eerie and ominous press conference cum orientation campfire. Here, he made a Halloween declaration, "This year’s Ocean Park Halloween Bash will be our scariest ever — every Hong Kong person has, since childhood, heard all about these ghostly horror stories creeping out from their neighbourhoods or schools. Now, they can come to Ocean Park and have close encounters of the supernatural kind with the “Pond Lady”, "Ms. Single Braid”, "The Vampire Catcher”, “Blood Hunter”, and many many more.”

"Also remember these numbers – 9-8-3-13-80-404-30-5’2’12 – 9th year, 8 new scary haunts, 3 new run-for-your-life zones, 13new freak-you-out show titles, 80 daily performances, 404 wandering lost souls, and over 30 regular attractions, from 5pm to 12 midnight.” Dr Zeman continued.

World-famous horror film director masters, the Pang Brothers, are thrilled that their movie, “Recycle”, has been transformed from the big screen into a real-life hardcore Halloween attraction at Tai Shue Wan Plaza. Pang Fat said, "Ocean Park Halloween Bash is a Hong Kong trademark event and has even been described as one of the world’s best Halloween events. To be able to reconstruct the surreal scenes from “Recycle” and enable thrill-seekers to cross this new divide, which now brings the movie world into the real world is, to us, out of this world! We love it and hope our fans do too.”

Neighbouring “Recycle”, M&M’s presents: the Forbidden Mall. Legend has it that M&M’s, which are frequent visitors of the mall, were kidnapped by a ghost! Each of the delectable M&M’s are waiting to be rescued, and it’s up to the guests to find them! There is also a brain-picking quiz at the end of this shopping trip, with M&M’s that melt in your mouth and not in your hand as the ultimate prize!

Over at the Headland, part of the soon-to-be-opened Ocean Express funicular train station will be the setting for Purgatory Express, which will be built for this time only at the Ocean Express Summit Station. This haunted attraction is the award-winning project by a student team comprising Joey Wu, Michelle Chau and Winston Li of Ocean Park’s Haunted House Design Competition. The “Rat Mutant Captain” and “Headless Jane” silently lurch about the Purgatory Express for passengers to present their death-pass and board the train, which will instantly transport its “prey” to a fiendish underworld. At the same time, gusts of wind will send chills down guests’ spines, and with no notice whatsoever, the train will be swept off its tracks. “Next station, Purgatory…” announces the non-attendant.

Also at the Headland, Blue Girl presents: Police Station No.13 is the haunt where “The Vampire Catcher” and the “Blood Hunter” like to assemble. For protection, guests can try what it’s like to be an exorcist and use a “bagua” mirror (八卦鏡) to reflect light onto the demons before they get out of hand.

Nearby stands The Ghastly Minshuku. A charming lady of the inn by day, a throat-cutting murderer by night, the blood-thirsty succubus will be found sharpening her knife in the dining room when guests are unaware. A tragic murder ensues and agonizing cries from wandering spirits are heard…the hostess now has a new target… who will it be? Guests lucky enough to make it out of the inn alive will find themselves face to face with the faceless  “Hanako” and “The Cursed Kappa”…

Moving down to the Lowland, the lonely “Pond Lady” and “Ms. Single Braid” drift about the Campus of the Living Dead. "Haunt” Kong’s most frightening ghost stories will come to life right before guests’ eyes. Guests who tell the lonely woman the time may end up at “The Wack Collector’s” Occult Lab nearby, where many tools of darkness bring back wandering spirits.

Out of all of Hong Kong’s ghost stories, High Street Madness takes the headstone for being one of the scariest of them all. Deafening shrieks are often heard coming from the patients’ rooms, insect carcasses litter the ground and the long and narrow corridor becomes narrower and narrower…in this distorted internal world of the insane, one can’t help but become as mentally twisted as its “Zombie Guard” and “Miss Struggle.”

Haunted houses are scary enough, but when friends and foes are in on it too, it can be even trickier. Unbeknownst to guests, their friends may have already been hand-picked by “Laughing Gor” to be Hong Kong’s first group of secret undercover “doublecrossing fiends.” ”Laughing Gor” hand-picked some of the most creative applicants from the Ocean Park Halloween Bashwebsite to attend Laughing Gor’s “Ghost Training Class” and learn his double-crossing tricks. Guests and friends alike attending Ocean Park Halloween Bash will definitely get double the scares!

Ocean Park Halloween Bash is offering a variety of great-value-for-money admission packages, so that guests can fully relish the “9-8-3-13-80-404-30-5’2’12” Hong Kong-style Halloween! Guests purchasing Monster Mash Party tickets are entitled to unlimited entry to all haunted attractions through a fast queue, a Halloween dinner with a glass of house wine or special drink at Bayview Restaurant’s private room, an exclusive Halloween costume set and the chance to party with some ghoulish characters.

At Whisker’s Harbour, kids are desperately wanted at Jack O’ Town! Police there must get their hands on the infamous pumpkin outlaw. Only the bravest of kids can help the police catch the candy thief by playing a series of fun interactive games! Our younger fiends will be tickled pink daily here and surprise! Surprise! Everyday during the event, M&M’s will be given out to the bold lil’uns who’d say “Trick or Treat!”

Starting from 17 August, Ocean Park Halloween Bash entrance tickets will be on sale at Ocean Park’s website, www.halloweenbash.com.hk, Ocean Park’s ticketing offices at the Main Entrance and Tai Shue Wan, and 7-Eleven™convenience store branches that are located in the MTR, and other specified stores.

Lastly, Dr. Zeman suggests a Halloween Bash Play Hard strategy, “The 9th Ocean Park Halloween Bash will stimulate all senses, and the earlier you purchase tickets, the easier it is for you to choose your preferred date to visit. Also, the more friends come, the merrier, as ghosts get all worked up when they’re outnumbered. And alas, no matter how much fun you’re having, there’s the Park’s wide array of festive delights that will help store up your energy for more frights ahead.”
