Ocean Park is delighted to welcome the public in meeting An An and Ke Ke, the two giant pandas gifted by the Central Government to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures. Visitors of all ages have been brimming with enthusiasm before the Park opens this morning.
The Giant Panda Greeting Ceremony, held yesterday to celebrate the official unveiling of the panda duo, was graced by the presence of John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Mrs Janet Lee, honourable guests from the Central Government, Cheuk Wing-hing, Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, and Rosanna Law, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with distinguished guests from various sectors.
“Ocean Park is deeply grateful to the Central Government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for entrusting us with six giant pandas. Over the years, the Park has been dedicated to enhancing animal care capabilities, advancing scientific research and breeding programmes for giant pandas and other endangered species. We also inspire conservation action through educational initiatives. We will continue to contribute to the country’s conservation efforts while nurturing the next generations to take responsibility for the environment,” said Paulo Pong, Chairman of the Board of Ocean Park Corporation. “We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and other sponsors for their invaluable support in upgrading the habitats for An An and Ke Ke.”
Ocean Park extends its gratitude to Mrs Janet Lee for her thoughtful gift presented to the Park at the Giant Panda Greeting Ceremony – a set of six exquisite porcelain plate paintings with giant pandas An An and Ke Ke appearing at various famous landmarks in Hong Kong to spread joy and happiness. Visitors can admire this commemorative hand-painted porcelain work of art at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures retail store.
The event also unveiled the results of the giant panda naming and painting competitions, with awards presented to the winners. Both competitions received enthusiastic support from the public, with the naming competition receiving over 22,600 suggestions. The judging panel decided that the two giant pandas will continue to be named An An and Ke Ke. The combination “An Ke” symbolises that good things will continue to come and follow in Hong Kong's future. Additionally, “An” signifies peace and stability, expressing hope for a stable and peaceful future for Hong Kong. “Ke” represents endless possibilities, hoping for a future in Hong Kong full of potential.
