Jelajahi Ocean Park.
Ocean Park Corporation (OPC) announced today that it has awarded the contract for the development and operation of the Ocean Park Adventure Zone to a consortium between Shun Tak Holdings Limited (HKSE 242) and the AJ Hackett International group.
Listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 1973, the Shun Tak Group is a leading conglomerate in the Greater Bay Area deeply rooted in Hong Kong and Macau for more than 60 years. With “Tourism+” as its growth strategy, the Group’s core businesses span across property, transportation, hospitality and investments within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and first-tier cities in China, as well as other international markets. Collaborations between the Shun Tak Group and AJ Hackett International group started in the year 2002, when the two jointly introduced the adventurous experiences of “Skywalk” and “Tower Climb” at Macau Tower, followed by the highly sought-after activity – the acclaimed Macau Tower bungy jump at 233 metres, the world’s highest commercial bungy jump from a building in 2006.
AJ Hackett International is a world-leading adventure tourism company founded in 1988 in Queenstown, New Zealand by AJ Hackett – “the founding father of Bungy Jump”, and the world’s first adventurer and entrepreneur who brought commercial bungy jump to the globe. Renowned for its array of gravity-defying activities, its flagship brand Skypark by AJ Hackett operates in Macau China, Singapore and Australia, along with other locations in Europe and the Americas, striving to create sensational experiences that positively change lives.
Paulo Pong, Chairman of Ocean Park Corporation commented that this marks an exciting new chapter in Ocean Park’s history, with two industry pioneers developing a new zone at the Park. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Shun Tak Holdings and the AJ Hackett International group to bring a new realm of outdoor entertainment experiences for both the people of Hong Kong and visitors from all around the world. The new zone promises to be a blend of exhilarating adventure-themed attractions with breathtaking views of nature, complemented with education and sustainable development practices. This will ensure that every adventure not only delivers excitement but also cultivates a deeper understanding of harmonious coexistence between man and nature,” said Pong.
The Adventure Zone is a key element under the 2021 Future Strategy for Ocean Park. An ocean-facing upper area of the Park is now utilised to build thrilling outdoor attractions in a new adventure themed zone.
According to requirements of the tender, the successful bidder will be responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the new zone. Ocean Park and the consortium will announce more details on the zone, including its vision and blueprint, at a press briefing on 24 October.
