(9 February 2010) Hong Kong) Love is in the air at Ocean Park as the Year of the Tiger and Valentine’s Day draw near with the kick-off of Ocean Park Sweetheart CNY Holidays running between 13 and 28 February 2010. To spread the feeling of love and affection, Ocean Park hosted its media friends with a festive luncheon today to showcase an impressive variety of CNY attractions. These include a preview of the majestic Emperors of the Sky Presentation featuring rare birds of prey from around the world, a delightful visit to Hong Kong’s largest peach blossom garden at the Double Happiness Garden, and a privileged tasting of festive delicacies – all helping to boost our spirits as we welcome the roaring year of the Tiger!
Dr. Allan Zeman, Chairman of Ocean Park, shared his holiday wishes and unveiled the Park’s CNY surprises, “We are tremendously excited at the line up of attractions at Ocean Park this year with over 100 celebratory attractions and performances, 88 new-year-themed gift items and 68 auspicious culinary delights. Our guests will have the rare opportunity to meet precious birds of prey and enhance their understanding of conservation, while celebrating a Valentine-themed Year of the Tiger through our selection of activities. The unique combination of Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day calls for a grand celebration for everyone in Hong Kong, and the Park is generously offering gifts worth over HK$4 million in value with something guaranteed for every single guest!”
The Double Happiness Garden at the Waterfront, with its impressive grove of 99 peach blossoms (the number “99” symbolizes “everlasting” in Chinese), provided the perfect setting for Jex – the show supervisor of Ocean Park’s entertainment team – to propose to his girlfriend, Cissy, a panda keeper at Ocean Park. Under the blooming peach blossoms and the romantic glow of an 8-meter tall Chinese Lantern, Cissy accepted Jex’s proposal with special blessings from Dr. Zeman. Also present for this defining moment were Steven Ma and Selina Li, the popular local TV celebrities, who took this chance to encourage more couples to come to Ocean Park and declare their affections at the Garden. If you are too shy to proclaim your love in front of other guests, then the Garden’s large digital screen will be the perfect way to help you send heartfelt messages to your lovers, friends or family.
Also at the Waterfront, the House of Loving Kindness comprises four zones - romantic, friendship, family and love for our planet – to echo the theme of love during this New Year season. Here guests can solve tantalizing lantern riddles with their loved ones, learn about different ways to love and protect our Earth, and catch auspicious photo opportunities with Whiskers and friends!
The Emperors of the Sky Presentation at the Bird Theatre is not to be missed. Over ten extraordinary birds of prey including steppes eagles, Lanner falcons, striated caracaras and turkey vultures, along with 70 other species of birds, will appear in the new programme four times a day. This compelling educational session will give guests a deeper understanding of why it is important to protect their wildlife habitat. Furthermore, keeping with the spirit of Valentine’s Day, guests can seek the help of the birds to make personalized marriage proposals to their loved ones – bookings need to be made three days in advance.
Guests can also explore the twists and turns of The Lucky Maze at Whiskers Harbour, specially designed and sized for kids and adults alike to share the many wonderful blessings hidden in every corner.
For those looking for a more exuberant experience, the Tai Shue Wan Plaza presents a stellar performance through Spellbound on Ice, a massive Chinese New Year illusion-filled extravaganza with amazing figure skating, aerial acts, funky dancing and a special appearance of the respected God of Fortune who will fill the entire theatre with good luck and charm! If guests are looking for even more excitement, they can take on the challenge of sliding down the thrilling 5-meter-high Turbo Snow Tubing for the ultimate adrenaline rush.
Ocean Park celebrates traditional customs hand-in-hand with festive fun and games. A Giant Gold Tiger will greet guests at the Waterfront and boost their fortune for the year. Traditional performances by the Musical Ladies of Prosperity and vibrant Auspicious Animal Dances by lions and dragons will usher in all the luck and vitality you need for the New Year. Last but not least, the God of Fortune Palace stands tall at Tai Shue Wan where Money God and the Money Kids await to shower guests with New Year blessings.
Dr. Zeman added, “To thank our guests for their continued support over the past year, we have prepared over 350,000 gifts to be given out through a sure-win sweepstake, including a 5-door Volkswagen vehicle, Year of the Tiger gold medals, attractive gift coupons and many more dazzling surprises. Is there any better way to celebrate the Year of the Tiger? We invite everyone to join in this glorious celebration!”
