The Hauntingly-Anticipated Event Ocean Park Halloween Bash Holds Seven-day Auditions to Search High and Low for Over 500 Spooky Positions

2009-07-11

(10 July 2009, Hong Kong) Shrieks, thrills and chills will fill one of Hong Kong’s most anticipated annual events, Ocean Park Halloween Bash, which has always been the centre of attention for the public, tourists, and local and international media. Every year, Ocean Park holds open auditions for its October Halloween Bash in search for the spookiest and most frightful characters. This year, the Park will be recruiting the largest number of performers to present this year’s bone-chilling theme.

During the seven-day walk-in auditions for the 9th Ocean Park Halloween Bash, Ocean Park will select over 400 spooky ghosts and over 100 logistics staff. The first day of auditions alone attracted nearly 400 candidates, shattering all previous records. Competition was intense, as candidates strived to impress the judges with their voice, body movement, gestures, and most frightening expressions.

Among the candidates is Mr. Yu, aged 49, who is a freelance advertisement designer. His friend has been a performer at Ocean Park for the past few years. Knowing that being part of the Ocean Park Halloween Bash is great fun, Mr. Yu wanted to participate in this world-class annual event too. He said it was not the salary but the precious performance opportunity that matters. Regardless of the hundreds of young competitors, he is confident to secure a role because of his strong sense of commitment and performing experience.

Chi-ho, aged 22, has been a Halloween performer in Macau and was responsible for photo-taking with visitors. He’s become addicted to being a ‘ghost’ and wants to take it up to the next level by being one of the bone-chilling performers at Ocean Park Halloween Bash, interacting with the guests and providing the scares. He said frankly that it would be a proud achievement in this life if he is hired.

Yung, aged 23, is strong in sports and has good body expression skills, he entered the third interview successfully. Similar to Mr. Yu and Chi-ho, Yung is a fan of  Ocean Park Halloween Bash. He also longs for a chance to join this world-class entertainment event with hundreds of other performers.

Ocean Park’s Events & Entertainment Director, Todd Hougland, said, “This is the fifth year that we’ve held open auditions for this fabulous event. The Ocean Park Halloween Bash is a platform for aspiring local entertainers to participate in a world class performance. With the steady growth of the event, the total number of characters and performers required this year will top last year by over 10%. Ocean Park Halloween Bash does not only lead the market in local Halloween culture, but has also been described as the best Halloween party amongst the theme parks in the world, and a well-respected and popular Hong Kong event. Our ghouls and goblins have received endless praise, and to be a member of this terrifying team will not only be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity but an experience to be long remembered. The tips I’ve given to candidates include: display outstanding people-scaring skills; posses expressive features; be proactive and immersed in the role, but most of all to have fun! Our goal is to give guests a 100% unique Ocean Park haunting experience.”

For those who’re interested in joining the ‘ghost’ force and are aged 16 or above, please visit designated venues for an interview during 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18 and 19 July.
