(16 March 2010, Hong Kong) Ocean Park held a Topping Out Ceremony today for its latest upcoming attraction area under the Master Redevelopment Plan – Aqua City. Mr. Tom Mehrmann, Chief Executive of Ocean Park said, “The Topping Out Ceremony signifies a milestone in the Park’s HK$5.55 billion Master Redevelopment Plan as the Waterfront approaches the final stages of construction. Ocean Park has always been dedicated to providing unique experiences that combine entertainment, conservation and education to our guests. Aqua City helps to vividly convey the importance of protecting the ocean and its aquatic life.”
The new Grand Aquarium, scheduled to open with Aqua City in late 2010, will become the flagship attraction of Aqua City at the Waterfront. It will be one of the largest aquariums in Asia with over 400 fish species. The Aquarium is designed to create an up-close and immersive experience for guests to learn about the wonders of the ocean. Guests will find themselves surrounded by an array of sensory adventures in the 3-storey structure, exploring the fascinations of the marine world. A 5.5m-diameter acrylic dome, the largest in the world, and a 13m-wide acrylic viewing panel, also among the largest in the world, will leave our guests enthralled by the breathtaking views and fascinating perspectives of its aquatic creatures. Also not to be missed is a new and spectacular night show called Symbio, featuring the first 360° water sceen in the world. It will be staged at the Aqua City Lagoon, where guests will experience Hong Kong’s first and only nighttime extravaganza showcasing a compelling visual, water, fire and special effects presentation, which makes it a “must see” attraction.
The awe-inspiring journey can best be concluded with dining at the Grand Aquarium’s Neptune’s Restaurant and shopping from a selection of over 10,000 marine themed souvenirs.
“The completion of Aqua City is truly an important milestone in the Park’s history, reinforcing our vision of becoming a world leader in providing exciting and unique guest experiences, while adhering to our mission of connecting people with nature,” Tom Mehrmann concluded.
The officiating guests poured a total of 88 coral fish into a large fish tank to symbolise the settlement of a variety of sea animals from around the world into the Grand Aquarium at Ocean Park. The topping out event signifies the beginning of the final stage of construction for the new Aqua City at the Waterfront area.
